We moved to Israel thinking, rather naively that it was our true home, but after many months of trying to assimilate, learn the language and seeking employment we were forced to face the TRUTH! Israel is a bit backward, they still tend to mix religion with government and they are gravely biased by the belief of the Ultra religious who make it difficult for secular, everyday Jews to get along.

2006 Begins...Weather and Changes

THe weather all around the world seems to have gone crazy but it seems as if no one really notices the changes. My husband and I watch the earthquake, volcano, wind and solar weather reports and we see how much things have changed since last year, keeping a log that looks a bit like a stock report, we trace the events since Dec.26 2004 and we see horendous change in the earth and her ability to provide a temperate and stable environment. At times we marvel at how no one seems to have a care about any of the drastic changes we are seeing. Last evening as we were eating our dinner our neighbor tapped on the door, "Just wanted to make certain your heater is working" he said smiling "the temperature dropped 20 degrees in only the last thirty minutes!" Theo thanked him and we noted our friends thoughtfulness. Then we fell to talking about all the things that changed in 2005.
Just a year ago we would never have thought that a whole city in the US could be wiped out, or nearly so by a hurricane, and certainly we had never seen an earthquake or a sunami as bad as those that closed out 2004!
It seems that Gaia is getting tired of us polluting, using up valuable fossil fuels, leaving behind huge empty underground reservoirs where once the viscous oil held the side at odds...and here in California the morning news showed crime scene tape from Hermosa Beach south past us here at Long Beach, due to a tremendous amount of raw sewage having suddenly been released into the ocean from a broken system overrun by too much rain in too short a time. Our wine fields in Napa and Sonoma may never be the same again, wild fires are wiping across Oklahoma this week like they did in Texas and Arkansas the week before...oh but wait, everything is fine isn't it?
I am certain if mother earth could speak she would tell you all you need to know as her child to stay alive as she dies from our utter foolishness and lack of care! But would you listen?
All of you who read this blurb of mine know that I am usually on about some cause or other, and that I am still not over the fact that our motherland's people spit us out as if we were vile, unwanted step children!By the way, we are no longer alone there are all sorts of people that share our experience of having not made it in Israel, in fact tonight on CNN Anderson Cooper there will be ashow on the Orthodox and how difficult is to get out!
SO...everyone, take a look around you now that a new year has arrived and think of one simple thing you might do to make Mother Earth happier and healthier...plant a rose, get a new indoor fern ( they make lots of oxygen I hear), take a walk in the woods and pick up trash after those who are less sensitive, wash off the bushes in front of the house so they can breathe, ( plants need to breathe too you know) and most important of all cut down on the number of times you drive the car when you could just as easily walk! We have decided to not own another car, we used to walk 5 miles a day in Tzfat and we are trying to keep that up here in Long Beach as we like our trim and healthy selves and want to keep it that way. Drink water instead of whatever it is you usually go for, a soda, coffee, tea...and treat your indoor plants to the tea or coffee instead they need the tanin and can't get it from their soil after a couple of weeks in a pot!
One final thing, this just in from my own daughter...Please don't forget to communicate once in a while the old fashioned way with snail mail...I sent her a little hand written note to cheer her up and was given the wonderful gift of an hour of conversation on the phone, it was truly lovely to hear her voice and to realize that we are not used to communicating in the old fashioned ways anymore, but we should get back to that...she reminded me that hand written notes last forever, and so do good conversations with those we love!!
